Journalist Hamid Mafi Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

Journalist, blogger and civil rights activist Hamid Mafi has been sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Ghazvin Revolutionary Court.

RAHANA: In addition to the 5 year prison term, the Ghazvin Revolutionary Court had sentenced Hamid Mafi to 8 months in prison.

According to the Committee of Human Rights Reporters, Mafi had been arrested on February 9th at his work in the Island of Gheshm. He was released on a $100,000 bail after 13 days.

He had also been arrested on March 11, 2008 and was released after 10 days on a $50,000 bail.

Hamid Manfi was born in 1979 and has graduated with a degree in Industrial management. He started his career in journalism with “Hadis”, a local publication in Ghazvin. He had also written for “Farhang va Ashti” and has published many articles in Shargh, Etemad, Kargozaran and Etemadeh Melli newspapers.
